The Chronomaster Revival A3817 is crafted in the same 37mm angled tonneau-shaped case with pump-style pushers as the original, using historical blueprints and reverse-engineering to preserve the original proportions and finishes. Given that only 1000 of the A3817 were ever produced, it remains one of the most distinguished, elusive and sought-after references among the early El Primero watches. It combined the sportier steel tonneau-shaped case of the earliest steel El Primero references with the striking tri-colour dial of the A386. Released in 1971, the A3817 was the exception to the rule. On one hand, there were sportier models in tonneau-shaped steel cases, such as the A384, and on the other, more classical round cases in steel or gold, most notably the A386. Because it beats at a frequency of 36,000 times per hour – twice that of the standard 28,800 vph movements, the seconds hand seems to glide rather than tick.When the El Primero calibre made its debut in 1969, Zenith chose to house it in two watch categories. The Zenith El Primero Chronograph A386 was introduced in January of 1969, and c. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 36,000 vph (5Hz). It has a dry molybdenum-sulfide based lubrication system, and an embellished tungsten carbide weight segment. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and an index regulator. It's rhodium plated, and it's constructed with 31 jewels, 135 components, an Incabloc anti-shock device, and a straight-line lever escapement. This Zenith El Primero A386 has a mechanical automatic self-winding high beat El Primero caliber 3019 PHC chronograph movement. It has a 50-hour power reserve at full wind, and the 12.8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. It has distinctive tri-color subsidiary dials, including a running seconds indicator at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph register at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-miute totalizer at the three o'clock position. There is a perimeter tachymeter to 500 UPH, and inside on a plain black reserve is a 1/10th second ring. A quick set date aperture window is 4 and 5 o'clock. The original silver dial has applied steel faceted luminous baton indexes, skeletonized white baton hands with luminous inserts, and a red center chronograph hand with a rectangular luminous indicator around a minute/one-fifth second scale. The 37mm diameter solid two-body case, hooded lugs, and flat bezel are polished. There is a solid screw-down case back and round chronograph pushbuttons.
